HOSA Launches a New Chapter by Ayaana Gupta

HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), also known as HOSA- Future Health Professionals, was a school club where members can participate in a wide range of events and activities relating to healthcare. Junior Addison Trent is the historian for Mel High’s new chapter. She explained, “it focuses on leadership, service, and medical knowledge as we help students who are interested in health care join together in one organization.” Trent and other juniors started this club by building a community of people with similar goals. The club built real world skills, as well as opportunities for leadership and community service.

As a historian, Trent looked forward to “organizing the social medias, flyers, and eventually competing in competitions next year!” Trent along with other juniors had a lot to do to prepare for the club. The club officers met with the advisor of the club, Ms. Todd, and made sure everything was set. Trent stated, “ We made an instagram account for HOSA, a Google Classroom, Remind, and had some of the officers post on their personal social media accounts as well.” In addition, they practiced their presentation and hung up flyers.

The new chapter had quickly gained traction with many students including freshman Rujula Mogre, who joined because she “wanted to explore the medical field.” Mogre said, “I joined the club with my friends so that made it more enjoyable.” Since the club was started in the 4th quarter, Trent expected many competitions to start next school year. Mogre added, “I am most excited for the competitions and being able to explore different professions.” Trent shared, “ I would say that if you have even the slightest bit of interest in medicine, join!! Being around people with the same interests as you is a good way to put yourself out there and the competitions should be a super fun time next year.”
