Chorus Begins Preparations for Their MPA by Brooke Johnson

The MHS chorus was getting ready for MPA, and honestly, everyone was feeling a mix of nervous and confident. MPA was when chorus groups performed on stage and got scored by judges. The judges looked at a lot of things, like tone, posture, effort, dynamics, and how good you and your group sounded overall.

Rachel Bautista, a 10th grader in the Bella Voce level of chorus, shared what her group was performing. “We were performing Sea Fever and Psalm 100 at MPA this year,” she said. Rachel also explained what MPA actually was for people who didn’t really know. “MPA was when you get scored based on your chorus group when singing on stage… they score you multiple ways when you and your group perform, like your tone, posture, effort, dynamics, and other things.”

Meanwhile, the Cantare group was also putting in the work. Juliette Stricklan, a 9th grader in Cantare, said, “The songs we are going to perform are Dum Spiro Spero and Heart We Will Forget Him.” She seemed pretty confident about how it was going to go too, adding, “I believe we were going to get straight superiors.”

Overall, chorus students had been practicing a lot and really trying their best to do well. Even though MPA could be stressful, many singers believed their hard work would pay off.
