NHS Members Meet Wednesday to Discuss Plans by Lily Majors
At the recent NHS meeting, junior Lauren Deacon shared her experience as a dedicated member of the National Honor Society. Deacon has been part of NHS for two years, continuing her passion for community service that began back in middle school when she joined NJHS. “I was in NJHS and wanted to continue my work in giving back to the community,” she explained. For Deacon, NHS offered the perfect opportunity to help others while spending time with friends who share the same goals.
The meetings, which took place in Ms. Barbra Cara’s room, gave Deacon a chance to connect with others and get involved in meaningful projects. Although she didn’t hold a specific leadership role, she stayed active and engaged in every event. “I get to help the community while being with my friends,” Deacon said. Outside of NHS, she was also involved in soccer and multiple clubs such as SWAT and NTHS, balancing her schedule while staying committed to serving others.
Deacon discovered NHS through her friends and Ms. Cara, and she quickly became passionate about continuing her involvement throughout high school. “Yes, I will continue throughout high school,” she stated confidently. Her experience in NHS not only strengthened her sense of responsibility but also deepened her appreciation for teamwork and community service. Deacon’s dedication shows how giving back can be both meaningful and fun when surrounded by supportive friends and mentors.
