Creating Creative Stories With Ms. Anderson by Aiden Kehayias

Art is many things. It can be love, it can be hate, and it can be everything in between. While there are many ways of expressing oneself through art by means of painting, sculpting, music, and a myriad of other ways. The way Melbourne High School’s very own Ms. Melanie Anderson has expressed and taught is by the way of literature.

Ms. Anderson here at Melbourne High School has taught English as well as Creative Writing and loves it dearly. Creative writing has helped Ms. Anderson, along with her students, by what she has said is like “... Free therapy” and “I like taking my own personal experiences and working them out through my characters…” Her students recently worked on writing a short story based off of a sentence and a location to write a short story that used sensory depictions, which is to take a sight, sound, smell, etc. and describe it in ways such as “It was a red…” or “a loud and ringing…” Ms. Anderson has worked alongside her students for each project as well, she said “Yes, I do, though I don’t always share them…” In Creative Writing, students usually get to choose the genre of their writing, as it was for the last writing assignment, and Ms. Anderson stated that one of her favorite genres was “Psychological Horror…” she later put emphasis on the psychological portion because of the way it interacts with the mind.

Art can be anything to anyone. People can paint, draw, and build. For many, however, art is expressed by means of the pen. Or, in our day and age, the keyboard. For the poets, playwrights, and even other journalists out there, the Creative Writing class may be for you in your elective choices next year.
