Hats in Ms. Coats 3D Art by Braelyn Arnella-White
In high school, art is very important. It plays a role in development, improving ability to think outside the box, problem solving skills, and allows students to express themselves freely. Art fosters patience, allows students to pay attention to detail, and helps students learn to persist when they might face an obstacle. These skills and traits can extend beyond the classroom for any student benefiting them in everyday life and their future careers.
Ms. Coats teaches 3-D Art at Melbourne High School and this week they made hats. Making something like this is a lot of fun but take a great deal of effort. The persistence allows students to develop patience. They started by learning to build the shell of the hat by gluing and taping newspaper, then painted and brought their designs to life.
Lindy Roy who is taking the class made a hat for her halloween costume she called “Baberham Lincoln”. Her hat was an extremely tall black top hat with a pink fabric detail going around it. Growing up Lindy always loved to draw and paint so being able to do those in school has been something she really enjoys. “I’m so lucky to have time every day and just be creative. It can be so relaxing with everything going on at school.”
