New English Teacher Brings Wisdom and Knowledge from Pennsylvania by Aiden Kehayias

Mrs. Theresa Christen, a new English teacher here at Melbourne High School, recently joined and has nothing but kind words to say about our great school. She moved down here from Pennsylvania in July to be with family, and is also greatly enjoying being here.

After teaching in Pennsylvania for an amazing 35 years, she moved down here to be around family. Mrs. Christen stated after being asked how her time at Melbourne High School was so far that “It’s just been wonderful being here,”. Mrs. Christen said that “I always knew I wanted to be a teacher,” and she thrives in the role. In Pennsylvania she taught Journalism alongside English and excelled in it, so much so that Capital building had keystones embedded in it from her and her students' journalistic efforts. As for being here at our school now, Mrs. Christen had this to say about it, “I think it is a very friendly place, much bigger… it's fantastic.”. Mrs. Christen has but one goal here, she said “I just want to inspire students”. And she wants to be remembered well for what she has done and worked for, she stated “I would like to be remembered as an empathetic person who inspired young people to learn.” A noble goal.

Mrs. Christen plans to succeed here. Just as she did in Pennsylvania for 35 years. She has proven herself as a great teacher throughout her career. It's not often we take time to appreciate our teachers, and they work very hard to give us an education. So next time you are with your teacher, say thank you, it’ll be sure to liven their day.
