Working Through the Equations by Jayda Blanc
Students entered the classroom with a mix of emotions such as anxiousness and perseverance as the awaited math test arrived. Following the week before, studying equations, and practicing different math problems. “ I think I did good on the math test on Tuesday,” said Elena Neel.
For sophomore Elena Neel, this was one of the big tests for IB- Algebra 2, and she walked in feeling nervous and excited. This test was the start of the new quarter which ended on October 10,2025. Her first year in IB-Algebra 2 has been full of new adventures- from learning the basics from Algebra 1 to new equations and topics. She practiced regularly with study guides and reviewed her homework based on the topic. “I've learned interesting things about math and different ways to use it in the real world”, said Neel. Freshman, Ally Field, also felt prepared going into the test. As the test began, the room felt silent and intense with pressure except for the sounds of pencils moving and the clicking of the calculator. Most students felt the pressure but also a sense of confidence in how much they had learned throughout the semester. “It wasn't that hard, but [it] made me think more,” shared Ally Field.
When the final last call for the test began, a huge wave of relief filled the room. Most students exchanged smiles, others a sign of defeat, but everyone walked away with a sense of accomplishment. The Math test wasn't about grades, it was about hard work and dedication to take one Piecewise Functions. At the end of the day, students proved that hard work pays off, and taking equations a day at a time.

Most students are known for completing test reviews and practice corrections before every exam. Melbourne High School has several teachers that teaches Algebra 2. Mr. Casey Chizek is the IB-Alg 2 who has been teaching for several years. “Doing reviews and test corrections help me prepare before the test and make me confident” said Elena Neel.
