Here at Melbourne High, Personal Finance is not just a regular class; It is a form of informational opportunity. An important class of which information may be found helpful beyond your school years. This is especially true for our Personal Finance teacher, Mr. Ryan Thomas. With hopes of spreading the useful information that Personal Finance provides, Mr. Thomas took up his position, and has been teaching at Melbourne High ever since. Mr. Thomas is excited to meet new students, and learn more about them. 

Inspired by his past experiences with having a bachelor in accounting, he was enthused  to be teaching others useful information through Personal Finance class. Though the class is an easy going class, it is imperative that students take the knowledge and use it towards their own benefit in the future. Stepping out into the real world, in real world situations without know the key information to managing money, could be very risky.  Mr. Thomas said, “Ideally, students should learn how to be mindful when making money decisions.” Personal Finance is important to Mr. Thomas because, “Knowing where money goes says a lot about where we are going.” 

As Personal Finance class hasn’t always been available to students, some believe that the reason why some parents tell their students to pay extra attention in this class is likely because when they were in school, they didn’t have access to the useful information, and that is something they want for their children. “I think they tell them to pay attention because it will give them a huge leg up on someone who didn’t take it seriously. Mr. Thomas shared some advice he would give his students. “Think about what you want from life, and point your intention towards that. Doing online games can help, as well as reading books, and thinking about your purchases before you make them.” These things can help students become more successful at sustaining information. This has great importance as Personal Finance as Mr. Thomas said, “Yes, not only with jobs that are financed based, it’ll also help with college expenses. There are countless ways that it can help in the real world.”

With a passion for passing down knowledge, Mr. Thomas has spread useful information to all of his students. In class students learn all the ways that they incorporate Personal Finance into their everyday lives, and important topics that they will take with them in the real world. This class helps prepare students for the future, it even helps them think about all the possibilities.
