ACTing Our Way into the Future by Chloe Strong

Students took a test called the ACT. It determines your college readiness and plays a big role in the admissions process. The ACT test can be very challenging because it covers a wide range of subjects and requires students to think quickly under time pressure. Each section of English, Math, Reading, and Science tests not only knowledge but also critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Senior Chloe Martinez talked about the challenges she faced taking this test. Martinez Said, “ The most challenging thing about the ACT for me was keeping up with time and answering every question. The ACT is known for its face paced testing and that challenged me more than the content itself." The strict time limits often make it difficult to fully process every question, which can feel overwhelming even for well-prepared students

Preparing for the ACT test takes time, focus, and dedication. Many students begin by reviewing the subjects such as English, Math, Reading, and Science to refresh their knowledge and identify strengths and weaknesses. Practice tests are especially helpful because they not only show what types of questions will appear but also allow students to get used to the strict time limits. Martinez said, ”To prepare, once I realized I still needed a bit more help, I got a tutor that was able to visually show me tips and tricks of the test so I was fully projected.” Practice tests and tutoring, creating a study schedule can help manage time effectively and ensure consistent progress.

The ACT is about more than simply reviewing content, it’s about developing effective test-taking strategies, understanding your strengths and weaknesses, and building confidence through consistent practice. Students who dedicate time to practice tests, tutoring sessions, and focused study habits are better able to manage the strict time limits and challenging questions on test day. Preparation also involves learning from mistakes, reinforcing weak areas, and adopting techniques that make the test feel more manageable and less stressful. By staying organized, setting realistic goals, and maintaining a positive mindset, students can approach the ACT with a sense of control and readiness.
