The Class of 2029 recently elected Morrissey and Chovatia as their President and Vice President, marking their first leadership roles in high school. Even informal discussions like these help them prepare to represent their classmates and plan events, like homecoming, for example, which is fast approaching and the student council has a lot of planning to do. When asked what the biggest help would be from their classmates and the rest of the student council, Morrissey says, “I just want to hear everyone’s input on what they want.” Their goal for the year is simple: listen, collaborate and make all events, big or small, meaningful for everyone. The start of high school is an exciting milestone, and for the class of 2029, it began with an important decision: choosing their first student leaders. Stepping into roles of representation and responsibility, the newly elected President and Vice President would guide the class through the challenges and opportunities of freshman year. Throughout the week, freshmen had the chance to learn about the candidates and think about who would best represent the class. While this election was a small event in the large school year, it gave students an opportunity to participate in class leadership and make their voices heard.

When the votes were counted, the Class of 2029 elected Ella Madeline Nicholson Morrissey as their President and Kush Chovatia as their Vice President, and both students shared ideas for helping their classmates get more involved. The students look forward to seeing how their freshman leaders will guide their class and build a sense of community. Both students shared their thoughts on how they plan to lead their classmates. When asked about the challenges she expects as President, Morrissey said, “I know there are restrictions on what I can do. I want to follow the guidelines but I also want to make as many good changes as I can.” Chovatia describes how he hopes to collaborate with the rest of the student council, explaining, “I plan to work with the student council by helping organise events and make sure we stay organised on our goals.”

With their first student leaders now in place, the Class of 2029 is ready to begin their high school journey with guidance and enthusiasm. Morrissey and Chovatia have already shown willingness to work with their peers, and classmates are eager to see how their leadership will shape the journey of this school year. As the freshman class took its first steps in their high school journey, the new President and Vice President are making sure that every student has a chance to participate and grow throughout the school year, not just individually, but as a team.
