IB Students Prepare for Exam Season by Ansleigh Friday

As the month of May arrived, so did exams. IB students such as senior Savion Kirby worked hard to prepare for their upcoming exams. IB classes could be either HL, higher level, or SL, standard level, with HL classes taking two years and SL classes taking one. For IB seniors such as Kirby, they could be taking anywhere from four to six IB exams, each with two or three parts. “This year I’m taking Spanish SL, History SL, English HL, Psychology HL, and Math AA HL,” stated Kirby.

While all IB classes were difficult, students would usually have at least one exam that would be harder than the rest. “I think that Math AA will be the most difficult. The course requires an in-depth understanding that I am afraid that I may be missing some important information,” he explained. Out of the three options for IB math, Math AA was the most challenging, so not many students chose that route. However, Kirby tried his best to work hard and prepare himself for that exam.

It is true that these IB exams required a lot of work and preparation, Kirby encouraged those who would be taking these exams in the future on what he found to be the best way to prepare. “I recommend practicing many past IB papers and preparing yourself for the style of questions and how to maximize the amount of points earned,” stated Kirby. He, as well as other IB seniors, knew that the exams would be challenging, but remained confident in themselves and their study methods.
