Sport Spotlight: Girls Soccer By Alma Molander

Dribble, pass, score! Sophomore Lauren Deacon played her second year on the MHS soccer team. Deacon’s soccer journey has been a long one. Deacon explained “I joined MHS soccer because I've been playing basically my entire life.” Moreover, Deacon said, “Everyone gets along great and it's like we're one big team.” 

Additionally, Deacon admires the girls on varsity. Deacon said, “I know everyone on varsity to come to capacity and they are all nice." Some days, Deacon gets to practice with the varsity team. Deacon mentioned “I look up to them.” She worked very hard for her spot on the JV team and hoped to make varsity some day as well.

Furthermore, Deacon made the accomplishment of being one of the JV captains for the 2024-2025 season. Deacon enjoyed this role because she liked to be able to encourage her teammates to be better players. Deacon said, “I am happy that I get to be a captain and help others.” In addition, Deacon stated, “All around, my teammates are very fun and I appreciate them.” In her role, Deacon led the warmups before games as well as practices.

Lastly, Deacon not only plays for the MHS lady bulldogs but also for Indialantic youth soccer association. Deacon said, “That team is like my other family.” Although not all of Deacon's teammates go to Melbourne High school Deacon said “I love playing against them when we play other schools.” All in all, Deacon enjoyed her experience so far playing soccer for MHS. After all, Soccer is more than just a sport for Deacon, it's a passion.
