Club Spotlight: Senior SGA By Autumn Long
Seniors Audrey Baudek and Nikolas Carden have both had great experiences in student government, but they took different paths to get there. Baudek joined student government in her sophomore year after being elected class secretary. She wanted to get involved in planning school events like homecoming and the senior vs. faculty volleyball game. As she moved into a larger role as senior class president, her responsibilities grew. "This year has been much different compared to other years since I'm in a bigger role,"
Baudek said, now in charge of making sure the senior class’s voice is heard.
As senior class president, Baudek has worked on big projects like picking the senior class symbols, designing senior shirts, and planning the senior banquet and graduation. "There are other tasks that require a lot from not just me but the rest of my council," Baudek said. Baudek also works with the other officers to plan meetings, make morning announcements, and spread the word about senior events. She knows that every small task is important to make senior year a success.
Carden joined student government as a junior because he wanted to gain experience in leadership and make decisions that would affect the student body. Now, as senior class secretary, cardens job is to record all the minutes and notes during meetings. "My responsibilities are to record the minutes and notes regarding our discussions for all of our meetings," Carden said. Though his role may not always be in the spotlight, it’s crucial to keeping everything organized and on track.
Both Baudek and Carden agree that the best part of student government is when everything comes together perfectly. "Definitely when we plan an exciting event and it turns out to come out how we wanted it to or even better," carden said. Baudek and Carden both encourage students to join student government if they want to help out, have their voices heard, and get involved in fun events. Their hard work and dedication make a big difference for their school.
